Diagnostic procedure

Note:
• This control module is protected by SFD protection. For most diagnostic operations, this protection must be unlocked.
• SFD was introduced by the vehicle manufacturer in order to protect vehicle data against manipulation.
• There are several levels of SFD unlocking. For independent repair shops, VW provides ONLY the Basic unlock level.
• Even if SFD is unlocked in the control module, SFDX may still block some diagnostic objects.
• After unlocking, the control module automatically locks itself again after XX minutes of operation.
• You can find the SFD status in the SFD window or in the UDS Measured Values MASXXXXX-MASXXXXX.
You must be registered for the SFD online service in order to unlock SFD!

Open the hood.

Connect to control module XX - Gateway.
Check whether the vehicle has a diagnostic filter (information for checking will be displayed in the VConnect window).
If the vehicle has the filter and it is active, deactivate it. (The procedure can be found in the VConnect window.)

Use VCDS SFD (temporary solution).
Connect to the control module in which you want to perform operations requiring SFD.
Select SFD.
If your SFD session is not active, log in.
Select Unlock SFD.
